My perception of a Computer Lab is where knowledge and technological skills are imparted. But how do we do this effectively?
Every tool, method, etc, has its advantages and disadvantages. It is up to educators by a large part to minimize the negatives and highlight and further enhance the positives.
In the teaching environment, a computer lab doubles or is a learning lab. The three more prevalent layouts are the straight line, U-shaped and cluster. Each layout has its pros and cons. I, however, favour a combination of layouts. This involves a u-shaped with two or three clusters and individual stations. This lends for different learning activities.
Hopefully, my idea of an ideal learning lab will become the layout of choice as we progress with technological instructions.
This layout would make it easier for teachers to interact with their students, provide individual instructions and attention, the same can be said of a group/cluster. The u-shape would allow the teacher freedom of movement and easier access to an individual in the class.
