MODULE 1: ACTIVITY 5 - DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY

There are times when a teacher may feel hopeless in specific situations. This stems from the fact that although the teacher may be able to recognize that the student may be experiencing difficulty in learning, how can this be addressed? Many of us have not specialized in learning or behavioural issues that usually affect our students, e.g. dyslexia, ADHD, etc. Several of the detailed difficulties now have agencies which assess and assist these students. These agencies are accessed through the intervention of the school’s guidance councellor, principal and referral through the Ministry of Education. How many can be assisted in this way? What is the quality of the assistance given? How will these students function in society afterwards? Does the proverbial ‘red tape’ prolong rather than help these issues? These are some of the things that this enquiring mind would want to know!!!!
